Surgery Procedures
Please read all of the following information:
  • If you are unable to keep your appointment or will be delayed, please call the surgery center at (309) 664-0101 and your surgeon’s office.
  • Please take the following medications the morning of surgery with sips of water:
       - Blood pressure medications
       - Seizure medications
       - Asthma/COPD/emphysema medications
       - Heart medication
  • Do not take insulin or any other medications unless instructed by your surgeon.
  • You may drink clear liquids up until three (3) hours prior to your arrival time. Clear liquids include black coffee/tea, clear juice (apple), clear soda (Sprite), water and jello. No broth. Three hours prior to arrival, you may have nothing by mouth.
  • Please remove all make up, especially mascara, body piercings, nail polish and jewelry prior to arrival. If you wear contact lenses, please wear your glasses instead. Acrylic nails may be left on. Please leave all jewelry and valuables at home.
  • Please wear loose, comfortable clothes and shoes. Sleeves and pant legs should be loose enough to fit over bandages. If you are having shoulder surgery, please wear an over-sized button front shirt.
  • Female patients of menstruating age will be required to give a urine sample during the admission process unless you have had a hysterectomy, tubal ligation, are post-menopausal for greater than 2 years or are over age 60.
  • Please check in at the front desk when you arrive.
  • Please bring your driver’s license or identification card and your health insurance card with you. You may be asked to bring your co-pay depending on your insurance company.
  • Please bring the pre-anesthesia questionnaire the office gave you to complete, including the list of all your medications, if you have not already delivered them to the surgery center.
  • If you have granted Power of Attorney to another person, you must provide the document and have that person present to sign your consent for surgery.

Children may not be left unattended in the waiting room. Children are not allowed in the admitting and recovery areas for their safety and the safety of our patients. If you choose to bring children, please be sure they have adequate supervision.

A nurse will escort you to the admitting area and you will be asked to change into a gown. Your belongings will be placed in a patient belongings bag then placed in a secure area until you are ready to be discharged. The nurse will complete the admitting process. You may have two adult visitors at that time. The anesthesiologist will visit and discuss anesthesia care prior to your procedure.

When your procedure is complete, you will be moved to the recovery area where a nurse will monitor you frequently until you are ready to be discharged. You will be offered something to eat and drink. You may have two adult visitors after your procedure. Your nurse will explain all post-op instructions to you and your responsible adult prior to discharge and your responsible adult will be asked to sign your instructions.
