In most cases you will be ready to leave the surgery center 30-60 minutes after surgery. Patients having a tonsillectomy, however, will be required to remain for 3 hours after surgery.

For your safety we remind you:

• It is our policy that a responsible adult stay with you for 24 hours after surgery, unless you are receiving local anesthesia, so please make arrangements.

• Follow your surgeon’s post-op instructions for rest, diet and medication.

• Take pain medication only as prescribed and only as needed.

• Do not drive, drink alcohol, operate machinery or sign any legal documents for 24 hours after receiving anesthesia and while taking pain medication.

• Contact your surgeon with any problems, concerns or questions. If you cannot contact your surgeon, call or go to the emergency room.
